Frequently asked questions
On Toyota automatics like the A340 and A750, an E code is normally the 2WD version and an F code is the 4WD version, which mates to the transfer case. A 4WD 4Runner needs the 4WD version, which is one reason we match by VIN.
Not always. On 2003β2004 4Runners the 4.0L V6 used a 4-speed automatic while the 4.7L V8 used a 5-speed. Even when gear counts match, the bellhousing and programming can differ, so the replacement should match your engine and VIN.
Flush the transmission cooler and lines (on some 4Runners the cooler is part of the radiator, so check it for coolant contamination), use the correct Toyota fluid, inspect the mounts, wiring and transfer case connection, and check the fluid level to Toyota's procedure after installation.
Every used transmission comes with our 3-year parts warranty on major internal components when installed by an ASE certified mechanic. Full terms are on our Terms & Warranty page and on your written quote.
