The model name (C250, C300, C350) and year narrow it down, but the same badge has used different engines over the years. For example, a 2018 C300 and a 2019 C300 have different 2.0 turbo engines. Your VIN tells us the exact engine code.
It can. On some years the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive models used a different engine or different mounting and oil pan parts than rear-wheel-drive versions. We match the engine to your VIN so it fits your drivetrain.
